Premiere of Land of Cain on Canal Capital
On the weekend of December 23rd and 24th, 2023, at 10 PM, Canal Capital will air Land of Cain (also known as A Strangeness in my Mind). This compelling fiction miniseries takes us back to 1903 in Colombia, where a soldier from the Conservative Army, haunted by memories of the Thousand Days’ War, struggles to reintegrate into civilian life in his old village—an oppressive, religious place consumed by rampant superstitions and unsettling rumors of missing people.
Land of Cain delves into the psychological aftermath of war trauma, while exploring themes of traditional masculinity, deeply rooted religious fanaticism, human greed for wealth and power, and universal fears we all face: the fear of losing a child, being unable to provide for one’s family, or facing failure. These themes, grounded in Colombia’s historical and social context, become universal pillars that resonate with audiences from any background. By closely examining the scars of war, the series emphasizes the importance of reconciliation and the need to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.
Directed by David Herrera, the miniseries boasts a stellar cast led by José Acosta, known for his role in Birds of Passage (Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and Colombia’s submission to the 2018 Academy Awards), and María Cecilia Sánchez, star of The Muleteer (Guadalajara Film Festival) and recent Netflix and Caracol TV series Chichipatos and Bolívar.
Don’t miss the premiere of this gripping production, celebrated for its powerful storytelling and outstanding performances. Tune in to Canal Capital on December 23rd and 24th at 10 PM.
